  Press Release September 23, 2022 New York International FC’s Inaugural Annual 5k Race for Davide Giri Wraps Up New York, NY—September 23, 2022—New York International FC vice president Gary Philpott and director of community outreach Nicholas Alexandrakos presented a check for $7,228 to Professor Luca Carloni, of Columbia University’s Department of Computer Science, to contribute to the department’s Davide Giri Memorial Prize. Giri, a Ph.D. candidate at Columbia supervised by Carloni and a player for New York International, was killed in December 2021 on his way home from training, just steps away from his home. The Memorial Prize was set up to honor and celebrate his legacy. Giri was “a model player,” said Philpott, adding, he was a mentor for younger players on the team. “Davide was also a brilliant, generous individual—someone who went out of his way to support his teammates and the club. As his brother told me shortly after his death, ‘Live for Davide, Win for Davide.’ That’s beco

                             After a disappointing start against Stal Mielec on opening day, the NYIFC First Team bounced back and claimed a victory over Div 2 newcomers, Brooklyn City FC. It was a well contested that was more of a battle of attrition. Despite immense intensity in the first half by BCFC, the Boys held firm and found the opening they needed at the end of the half to score, Idrissa Sanogo pushed it in by a well-xsdplaced pass by Dan Cohen. In the second half, while still a battle, more space opened up and we witnessed some superb ball handling skills by Josh Dutosome. He opened up his account after a pass by Alex Teodorescu, turned his man completely around and put it in the top bins. To describe the match in one word, disciplined, and that discipline kept a clean sheet and brought home 3 points. Other points of notes, Aaron Forde returned to the lineup and assumed the Captaincy; John Reed made his debut appearance.             NYIFC (R) continued their undefeated run

NYIFC is proud of their accomplishments on the pitch; multiple championships over the last few years, a great board, great recruitment, and great managers, but in the last two seasons, they have been equally proud of their accomplishments o ff the pitch; the Davide 5K Remembrance Run, helping financially insecure players with scholarships to play, and finally, their partnership with EV Loves NYC. There’s a GoFundMe that one of the members of the CSG is doing multiple events for and last week, board member Nicholas “Cozzy” Alexandrakos organized a 4v4 Tournament on 09/14/22. There was a $200 entry fee with 50% of the proceeds going to EV Loves NYC. Five teams registered for the tournament, with Conquer Sports App winning and $550 raised, thus singlehandedly putting a random member of NYIFC into a Russian Ice Bath for 2 minutes in a speedo.                        The Boys in Black in Gold have a few scores to settle on Sunday as they travel to The Bronx to play Brooklyn City FC at Macombs Dam Park. This is the 3 rd meeting between the two sides in three years in various capacities. The first meeting was a barn burner in the 3 rd Division with the Lions coming the winners 5-4 in yours my first ever match in attendance which really began my love for this club. Last season, Brooklyn’s Reserve side knocked out NYInt’s in the Reserves Cup semi-final. This year, Minty and the Boys hope to set things right after their Stal performance and tag Brooklyn back for the Cup loss.               The Lions opened up MD1 against the newly relegated Polish side, Stal Mielec on 09/11/22 at Randall’s Island. Despite a relatively dominating performance by the Boys in Black and Gold, they came up empty handed losing 1-2. Stal opened up the scoring in the first 15 minutes. As the end of the first half neared, NYint was awarded a penalty. Josh Dutosme lined up to take the penalty, fired, but the keeper went the right way and saved. After almost an entire half of harassment directed towards the linesmen by the opposition side, the supporter sections from both teams were sent to the opposite side of the pitch and the half ended. Early into the 2 nd half Conor King opened up his account with a beaut, assisted by new boy Dan Cohen, leveling the score line. It didn’t take long for Stal to take back the lead after their player had his hope and prayer full volley shot outside of the box answered catching the entire defense and keeper unaware.        I blinked and when I opened my eyes, the new season of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League sprang upon me. Fresh faces emerged in the squad and the Division was restructured into two separate conferences. The first major change on the Lion’s side was the official appointment of Chris Minty (formerly the Reserve’s Manager). This appointment was definitely earned, running an undefeated spring campaign and bringing home yet another piece of silverware for the Lions.
