NYIFC (R) face their final challenge of the season this coming Sunday as they square off against 2nd place CPR Reds (R) for the Cosmopolitan Soccer League, 2nd Division Reserve Championship. Each side has their interesting story coming into this. The Reds first team won their division and this group ended the regular season with the 2nd best offensive record, 58 GS, and the best defensive record, 14 GA in the league. The Lions, on the other hand, went undefeated in the spring season, defeating the Reds in the process. Both previous encounters were closely contested, the Reds took the first match 2:1 and the Lions returned fire winning 1:0. As the lads prepare for the biggest match in the season, I sat down and had a chat with Manager Minty.

The Pride: It should make for an interesting one, with each side picking up a win. They struck first with a 2:1 victory in the first half and your side winning 1:0 as part of your undefeated spring campaign. What are you expecting this side to bring for your third meeting?

Chris Minty: It’s going to be a tight game. CPR are an organized, talented side and if we’re going to come out on top again, we’ll need to be at our best.

P: How familiar is your side with the field for the final? Is it grass or turf and will any special preparation be needed for it?

CM: It’s a turf field overlooking the East River. We’ve spent a lot of time there and a considerable part of our preseason training was on this field.

P: What do you think has been the opposition's key to success? They're second in goals and have the best defensive record in the division and both matches before this have been decided by a single goal.

CM: CPR are one of the biggest teams in the league, with multiple teams competing in multiple divisions. They've got a deep squad with talented players. We've shown we can compete with them, and in our last game earned the 3 points in a tough matchup.

P: Finally, for those unable to attend the match, will they be able to view it on Game in Frame?

CM: Fortunately, yes. The Match will be streamed at 3PM at Game in Frame

There you have it folks. The Lions are sharpening their claws, preparing to defend the den and their place at the top of the table. The Reds are looking to add a second league trophy to their cabinet this season. We are also wanting to make another shout out for the 5K for Davide Run. All proceeds for the run will be given to Columbia University for a grant in Davide’s name.
