A Cup Win going into Fall Final
The Boys Line up for Penalties |
November 13th, 4PM, saw NIYFC play
Manhattan Celtic II in the Flamahft Cup in what would ultimately be a game of
two halves. The first half, Celtic poured on tremendous amounts of pressure and
entirely took the Lion’s midfield out of the game. NYIFC struggled to find any
purchase beyond their own half and after a sustained assault, Celtic finally earned
their reward and went up 0-1. The second half would see the Lion’s kick off and
immediately impose their will. They played the free-flowing football they’re
accustomed to and started threatening Celtic, stinging the keeper’s palms
multiple times before finally equalizing. NYIFC had many more attempts on goal
but failed to convert and would lead to a familiar place for the organization,
penalties.
NYIFC
would be the ones to set the tone of the shootout after Verun Mehta came up
with an incredible save denying Celtic first blood. NYIFC would score their opening
attempt and Celtic would follow suit. After some superb shithousery by Mehta, Celtic
would fail to convert on their 3rd attempt after completely skying
the ball. NYIFC scored their 3rd straight and Celtic converted their
4th. NYIFC had a chance to end the match then and there, but the
pressure might have been too much, and the ball sailed over the bar keeping the
light alive for Celtic who would go on to score their 5th. A
composed Suli, with ice in his veins, scored NYIFC’s 5th and put
them into the next round. NYIFC will go on to face Asteras FC who play in the
Long Island Soccer Football League, dates/time/location are currently TBD.

Both
the Reserves and First will now go on to hopefully end the Fall Session on a
high playing KidSuper Samba AC’s II and III teams. Wins for both teams, and beneficial
results around the league, could help keep them competitive for their
respective races going into the Spring Session. NYIFC II sit in 3rd
tied in points with this week’s opponent while the Firsts have a 7-point gap between themselves and their opponent. Their matches will be at the familiar Randall’s Island at 12PM
and 2PM respectively.
