NYIFC Reserves Clobber Desportiva Reserves For Important 3 Points

NYIFC Reserves traveled to Prospect Park to secure a comfortable 3 points on 04/24/22 against Desportiva Sociedad (R), netting 5 goals and getting revenge for a defeat earlier in the season, 1-4. Alex Teodorescu and Con King bagged braces with Ronan Mackle securing a fifth. Con King paired his goals with an assist, Nick Platt provided 3 himself, and Jack Kiernan secured one for himself. I sat down with Manager Chris Minty and discussed the match, the Reserves Team itself, and the future of the season:

The Pride: Pulling five goals and keeping a clean sheet, it doesn’t get much more comfortable than that. Do you think the score line reflects the product on the field by the team?

Minty: The scoreline was certainly a reflection of how many chances we can create and put away. We played some great stuff during major portions of the match and dictated the pace/intensity of the game. We also didn’t get distracted by things out of our control and focused on getting the job done. With things so tight in the table, every game and every point matters, so I’m happy to win 1-0 or 5-0. The lads did a great job and it looked like they enjoyed it as well. Desportiva tested us at times as well and it wasn’t all one way. We did really well to keep a clean sheet.

P: Looking at both tables (Firsts and Reserves), it seems like the most successful sides are the ones that don’t treat their reserves as an after-thought, as a manager, how beneficial has it been to have access to such a wide and deep pool of talent?

M: Our “One Club” approach has played a large part in helping us succeed. We train and do everything together as one unit, and there’s almost a constant movement between squads. Gary (@GP16NYC) and I are almost in constant communication about who should play where and when and I think that’s helped a great deal.

P: We’re nearing the end of the season and your squad is right at the cusp of claiming the first position, what does it mean for you and the squad to be this successful in your first season?

M: There’s still a long way to go and we’re taking each game as it comes, but I’m/we’re proud to have done well in what has been a difficult season both on and off the field. We’re building something special at this club and the Reserve squad is a big part of that. We’re playing not just for ourselves, but, for each other, the club, and for Davide Giri, who played with us in the fall part of the season. Davide would love the kind of football we’re playing right now.

After a successful away win, the Boys in Black and Gold return to their familiar hunting grounds at Randall Park Field 70 as they play Block FC. NYIFC Reserves lost in their last meeting, 0-3, and are hoping to remedy that defeat while Minty looks to not only gain ground in the table but also keep all the blood in his head after a nasty injury in the previous meeting. Kick Off is at 6 PM 04/30/22
