What They Do In Shadows? Hopefully Win. MD 2 against Brooklyn City FC

The Boys in Black in Gold have a few scores to settle on Sunday as they travel to The Bronx to play Brooklyn City FC at Macombs Dam Park. This is the 3rd meeting between the two sides in three years in various capacities. The first meeting was a barn burner in the 3rd Division with the Lions coming the winners 5-4 in yours my first ever match in attendance which really began my love for this club. Last season, Brooklyn’s Reserve side knocked out NYInt’s in the Reserves Cup semi-final. This year, Minty and the Boys hope to set things right after their Stal performance and tag Brooklyn back for the Cup loss. I had the privilege of speaking to Manager Minty to talk about the history between the two sides, the time of the fixture, and the preparations for it.

The Pride: This is the 3rd time coming up against Brooklyn City FC's organization, 5-4 win for us opening day in the 3rd division and a Semi Final Cup loss for the Reserves last season, what are you anticipating this coming Sunday from their side?

Chris Minty: The 5-4 game was a while ago, and we’ve almost an entirely new team taking the field. Although that game may be informative, the Reserves’ defeat is the best touch point we have. Brooklyn came out strong in that game and we didn’t play well at all. They handed us our only defeat so far in 2022 and the lads will want to rectify that this weekend.

P: Both points are very valid. You're essentially coming up against a brand new and promoted side. How important is it for your boys to not take them lightly or has the Cup defeat put things more in perspective?

CM: We’ve not forgotten that game. In fact, I think it spurred us on to win the league. We didn’t take them lightly the first time; they were just better than we were. We hope to correct that performance on Sunday.

P: You all drew the late fixture Sunday, do you anticipate any big line up chances because of it?

CM: It’s funny that we’re playing Brooklyn City in the Bronx! We have a very deep squad so any absences won’t make too much of a difference. We have a strong core and they’re all available.

P: Excellent. Last weekend's result was a bit of a fluke, but was anything addressed during practice because of it?

CM: Oh yes. We worked on taking our chances when they come—all chances—and we spoke about taking advantage of any spaces we get. We don’t need the perfect chance to shoot. “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” —Wayne Gretzky/Michael Scott

As stated before, the Boys will travel to The Bronx and Macombs Dam Park on Sunday, 09/18/22. Reserves will start it off at 6PM and the Firsts will follow up at 8PM. I think the Boys are coming in with a chip on their shoulder and Minty doesn’t like to lose, especially back to back, I see a 0-2 win for the Black and Gold First team and a jump up to the table, this will be preceded by a 1-2 win for the Reserves.
