Blistering Attacks Sees NY Inter Take Down Hoboken FC II

 

            MD 7 saw NYIFC travel down to New Jersey to take on Hoboken FC. The Reserves opened things up against Hoboken III and suffered a 6-3 defeat. Losses such as these rarely have silver linings, however, the traveling Lions came back from a 4-0 deficit at half time to claw back 3 goals before conceding two more. They’ll look to lick their wounds and get back on course. The First Team saw much greater success, with Conor King securing a brace for himself in the first half and Nick Cho rifling one outside of the box to secure the win, 2-3. The Lion’s gameplan was well thought out and perfectly executed on the offensive front. Forwards harassed and bullied the defensive backs any time a ball was played out the back and didn’t allow Hoboken much time to gather their feet and breathe. The goals conceded were equal parts solid effort from Hoboken as well as lapse in concentration by the defense.

 

The Pride: How important was it for you to sprint out of the gates early in the match?

 

Chris Minty: Starting strong was something we spoke about before the game. I had watched our second team fall 1-4 behind during the first half and I emphasized to our firsts that we can’t let that happen. I noted we had to come out the blocks flying and take the game to Hoboken. We did that very well.

 

P: It’s been around 6 weeks since the last clean sheet and some of the goals seem self-inflicted. Are there any plans during training to tighten things up or do you see them working themselves out naturally?

 

CM: You forgot our 5-0 Cup Win, but regarding the league? I’m not really concerned about us defensively anyway. We’ve conceded a few cheap goals here and there, which you can’t always account for. Either way, we’ll look to robust ourselves as the season progresses.

 

P: You had a new boy on the pitch this weekend from NYU, Galal Bachara, any assessment in his first time out against a tough side?

 

CM: Galal was signed recently, yeah. He’s a young lad and very eager to contribute. He was thrown in the deep end against Hoboken and did well in his first game. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’ll do for us.

 

P: The Lads have a bye week this week and some time before the next league fixture (November 20th) while the other teams in the table catch up. Any specific preparations you have planned for the Cup Match on Nov. 13th?

 

CM: We’re just gonna keep doing what we’re doing for Manhattan Celtic II. We’ve played them a few times before and know if we’re at our best we’ll play well.

 

As stated before, the Boys in Black in Gold earn a much-deserved rest for the week as the rest of the league catches up in their fixtures. Their next match will be in the Flamhaft Cup against Manhattan Celtic II on Nov 13th @ 4PM on Randall’s Island Field 74. They currently sit in 4th in the Western Div of Division II with similar GF/GA/GD (11/9/2 to our 11/10/1). We’ll then finish off the Fall Campaign against KidSuper Samba AC II at Randall’s Island at 12PM (Reserves) and 2PM (Firsts). The Lions hope to use that match to not only win but improve their GD in the process. A Chin Waggle with the President

              After a successful freshman season in Div 2 of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League, I had a chat with President Nick Platt about his thoughts of the previous season and looking ahead.   The Pride: From an organizational perspective, how successful do you and the board view the concluded Div 2 inaugural season?   Nick Platt: Before the season, I said to the board that I would be happy if we could reach 4th place for the first team, and just asked that the reserves be competitive. A Cup Win going into Fall Final

  The Boys Line up for Penalties  November 13 th , 4PM, saw NIYFC play Manhattan Celtic II in the Flamahft Cup in what would ultimately be a game of two halves. The first half, Celtic poured on tremendous amounts of pressure and entirely took the Lion’s midfield out of the game. NYIFC struggled to find any purchase beyond their own half and after a sustained assault, Celtic finally earned their reward and went up 0-1. The second half would see the Lion’s kick off and immediately impose their will. They played the free-flowing football they’re accustomed to and started threatening Celtic, stinging the keeper’s palms multiple times before finally equalizing. NYIFC had many more attempts on goal but failed to convert and would lead to a familiar place for the organization, penalties.               NYIFC would be the ones to set the tone of the shootout after Verun Mehta came up with an incredible save denying Celtic first blood.
