A Cup Win going into Fall Final

Image
The Boys Line up for Penalties  November 13 th , 4PM, saw NIYFC play Manhattan Celtic II in the Flamahft Cup in what would ultimately be a game of two halves. The first half, Celtic poured on tremendous amounts of pressure and entirely took the Lion’s midfield out of the game. NYIFC struggled to find any purchase beyond their own half and after a sustained assault, Celtic finally earned their reward and went up 0-1. The second half would see the Lion’s kick off and immediately impose their will. They played the free-flowing football they’re accustomed to and started threatening Celtic, stinging the keeper’s palms multiple times before finally equalizing. NYIFC had many more attempts on goal but failed to convert and would lead to a familiar place for the organization, penalties.               NYIFC would be the ones to set the tone of the shootout after Verun Mehta came up with an incredible save denying Celtic first blood. NYIFC would score their opening attempt and Celtic would

Blistering Attacks Sees NY Inter Take Down Hoboken FC II

Image
MD 7 saw NYIFC travel down to New Jersey to take on Hoboken FC. The Reserves opened things up against Hoboken III and suffered a 6-3 defeat. Losses such as these rarely have silver linings, however, the traveling Lions came back from a 4-0 deficit at half time to claw back 3 goals before conceding two more. They’ll look to lick their wounds and get back on course. The First Team saw much greater success, with Conor King securing a brace for himself in the first half and Nick Cho rifling one outside of the box to secure the win, 2-3. The Lion’s gameplan was well thought out and perfectly executed on the offensive front. Forwards harassed and bullied the defensive backs any time a ball was played out the back and didn’t allow Hoboken much time to gather their feet and breathe. The goals conceded were equal parts solid effort from Hoboken as well as lapse in concentration by the defense.   The Pride: How important was it for you to sprint out of the gates early in the

9 Man NYIFC Comes From Behind to Defeat 10 Man Eintracht

Image
Matchday 6 saw the Boys in Black and Gold go up against bottom of the table SC Eintracht at Randall’s Island. The Reserves side opened up the day with a comfortable 3-0 win and the Firsts hoped to follow suit. SC Eintracht opened up the score line after capitalizing on some miscommunication in the Lion’s back line despite the Boys having substantial control of the match. It took until the opening 6 minutes for Josh Dutosme to level the score. NYIFC took back control of the driver’s seat and once again dominated possession and the tempo of the game. Chaos would break out late in the second half, however, after Josh lightly body checked Eintracht’s #10. The opposing player got up and what started off as yelling escalated into shoving, and then exploded with punches being thrown by Eintracht and members of both teams colliding. After the dust settled, despite not starting the fight, NYIFC had two players sent off while Eintracht’s #10 saw his card, I suppose that means we

A Chin Waggle with the President

Image
After a successful freshman season in Div 2 of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League, I had a chat with President Nick Platt about his thoughts of the previous season and looking ahead.   The Pride: From an organizational perspective, how successful do you and the board view the concluded Div 2 inaugural season?   Nick Platt: Before the season, I said to the board that I would be happy if we could reach 4th place for the first team, and just asked that the reserves be competitive. It was a real transition year for us going from 1 to 2 teams. It brings a huge amount of challenges with it and so I felt this was a good objective for us as we acclimated to the division and figured out the logistics of two teams within the club. One of the main things I felt was important for us to implement was a 'One Club' mentality to ensure that we stayed united and ensured that both squads were utilized effectively. This was another objective I felt we hit and that Gary and Mi

Press Release September 23, 2022 New York International FC’s Inaugural Annual 5k Race for Davide Giri Wraps Up New York, NY—September 23, 2022—New York International FC vice president Gary Philpott and director of community outreach Nicholas Alexandrakos presented a check for $7,228 to Professor Luca Carloni, of Columbia University’s Department of Computer Science, to contribute to the department’s Davide Giri Memorial Prize. Giri, a Ph.D. candidate at Columbia supervised by Carloni and a player for New York International, was killed in December 2021 on his way home from training, just steps away from his home. The Memorial Prize was set up to honor and celebrate his legacy. Giri was “a model player,” said Philpott, adding, he was a mentor for younger players on the team. “Davide was also a brilliant, generous individual—someone who went out of his way to support his teammates and the club. As his brother told me shortly after his death, ‘Live for Davide, Win for Davide.’ That’s beco

Two Clean Sheets, 6 Points, NYIFC Turns The Front of Yankee Stadium into Black and Gold

After a disappointing start against Stal Mielec on opening day, the NYIFC First Team bounced back and claimed a victory over Div 2 newcomers, Brooklyn City FC. It was a well contested that was more of a battle of attrition. Despite immense intensity in the first half by BCFC, the Boys held firm and found the opening they needed at the end of the half to score, Idrissa Sanogo pushed it in by a well-xsdplaced pass by Dan Cohen. In the second half, while still a battle, more space opened up and we witnessed some superb ball handling skills by Josh Dutosome. He opened up his account after a pass by Alex Teodorescu, turned his man completely around and put it in the top bins. To describe the match in one word, disciplined, and that discipline kept a clean sheet and brought home 3 points. Other points of notes, Aaron Forde returned to the lineup and assumed the Captaincy; John Reed made his debut appearance.             NYIFC (R) continued their undefeated run

The Compassionate Army Marches Forward

NYIFC is proud of their accomplishments on the pitch; multiple championships over the last few years, a great board, great recruitment, and great managers, but in the last two seasons, they have been equally proud of their accomplishments o ff the pitch; the Davide 5K Remembrance Run, helping financially insecure players with scholarships to play, and finally, their partnership with EV Loves NYC. There’s a GoFundMe that one of the members of the CSG is doing multiple events for and last week, board member Nicholas “Cozzy” Alexandrakos organized a 4v4 Tournament on 09/14/22. There was a $200 entry fee with 50% of the proceeds going to EV Loves NYC. Five teams registered for the tournament, with Conquer Sports App winning and $550 raised, thus singlehandedly putting a random member of NYIFC into a Russian Ice Bath for 2 minutes in a speedo. The good times keep rolling though, this sparked a weekly Futbol v Food Insecurity event at The Grounds on Thursday nights from 730-930 open to 16 pe
